KidSport
Adopt-An-Athlete Program
In 2008, $56,500 was raised throught he Adopt-An-Athlete program. For only $250, companies Adopted-An-Athlete and put a kid in sports. This money will go to cover costs like registration fees and equipment needs for children who otherwise couldn't afford to participate in their sport. KidSport also benefited from the 2008 Human Bonspiel.
Sport is an important component of a child’s physical and social development. However, the average cost to participate in sport continues to rise in Canada. In Calgary, the average cost of sport participation for a four-month period is around $400 per child. As a result, many families have no choice but to view sports as a luxury they simply can’t afford. KidSport exists to provide positive sport experiences to children from low-income families. We believe that sport is a powerful tool that can change a child’s life.
KidSport Calgary is a local children’s charity that raises money to pay registration fees and to provide sporting equipment to children from low-income families in Calgary and the surrounding communities. In 2007, KidSportCalgary distributed more than $358,000 to support 1,100 local kids and 12 local schools.
